This loop trail starts at Montallegro, accessible by foot (read here), by car, bus, or the scenic cable car from Rapallo. It's suitable for all hikers and can be paired with lunch at trattorias in Villa Oneto or Bocco di Leivi.

Begin above the cable car station. Climb the stairs to reach the tree-lined avenue leading to the impressive Montallegro Sanctuary, home to many votive offerings and a handcrafted nativity scene.

Enjoy sweeping views of the Gulf of Tigullio as you circle around (there's a water source here) and head right towards Chiavari. Soon, you'll pass a hotel-restaurant with stunning views of Rapallo, Santa Margherita, and the Portofino Promontory.
Continue on level ground through an ancient oak forest to a junction at Monte Castello's base. Follow the trail marker segnavia due quadrati vuoti towards Chiavari. After a gentle 1.5 km descent, you'll reach La Colla, marked by a votive shrine.

Turn left here. At the second hairpin, take the path branching off towards Villa Oneto, marked by segnavia tre pallini verticali.
This is the historic "pilgrims' trail" once used by locals to visit the Madonna di Montallegro Sanctuary. Volunteers have restored it after years of neglect. The descent is straightforward, though the original stone steps can be slippery when wet. Soon, you'll reach the last houses of Villa Oneto.
Follow the signs left through greenery, descending behind the houses. After a final steep staircase, the trail ends at Cian de Dria.

Take the paved road right, slightly uphill, to a left turn leading to the recently restored Ancient Abbey of Villa Oneto. After thirty years of neglect, the Byzantine-era church remains are now visible along an unpaved road.

Continue on this wide, shaded path (pleasant even in summer), passing a house with dogs and farm animals, then a riding stable. Reach the uphill paved road leading to Bocco di Leivi.

Keep uphill on the paved road (or take the stairs for about 200 meters to avoid the road) until you reach San Lorenzo. After the small church, leave the road for a staircase on the left.

Climb into a well-kept forest, reaching a junction with the road from Villa Oneto to Monte Anchetta. Cross it and continue on the trail to La Colla.

Retrace your steps to return to Montallegro, where the loop ends.
