The trail, mostly flat with gentle slopes, begins at the Park entrance (420 meters above sea level), behind the Hotel. It passes under the unsightly Rai antennas and reaches Gaixella in about 5 minutes.
This small area is a junction for several trails (Semaforo Nuovo, Semaforo Vecchio, San Rocco) and is equipped with benches, wooden tables, and a drinking water tap.
Continue along the wide, shaded path, which leads easily to Pietre Strette, the heart of Monte di Portofino.
Proceed straight for a few meters to the crossroads, then turn right towards Base 0.
The trail follows the mountain ridge, offering many panoramic views, and continues with a gentle incline to Felciara (436 meters above sea level), a fern-filled clearing with rest facilities.
Soon, you'll reach Ghidelli (393 meters above sea level), where a path connects to Portofino mare, and Costa dei Ghidelli, where a small path leads to the road to San Fruttuoso from Pietre Strette.
The trail descends to Base 0 (220 meters above sea level), where a unique shaded rest area is made from tree trunks. From here, you can continue to Portofino mare if desired.
Approaching San Fruttuoso, the path becomes more uneven and steep (trail marker changes to
), with increasingly stunning views of the bay. You'll reach the heliport, then pass through fishermen's houses to enter the picturesque village under the Torre Doria.
After exploring the village, take the return path starting behind the Abbey, heading towards Torra Andrea Doria, accessible via a short staircase.
A steep path ascends into a shady valley alongside a stream. The switchbacks continue through terraces and olive trees in a sunnier section, passing a farmhouse at Molini.
Beyond Casella, where there's a drinking water tap, the trail re-enters the forest. In about 20 minutes, it reaches the imposing rocky boulders of Pietre Strette (465 meters above sea level), the heart of Monte di Portofino, equipped with tables, benches, and drinking water.
Head towards Portofino Vetta to retrace your steps and reach the starting point in about 20 minutes.
