This loop trail starts and ends in Santa Margherita Ligure, beginning at Salita Montebello, the road behind the gas station across from the marina. After passing a few houses, the road turns into a mule track, winding through olive groves and stone walls, leading to the Cappelletta della Madonna della Neve in Nozarego. From here, enjoy sweeping views of the Gulf of Tigullio.
Continue a few meters on the main road, and on the left, you'll find the first of two paths (the second is just ahead, near the church of Nozarego) that enter the Portofino Park.
After an initial ascent, the trail levels out, offering views of the Gulf, Punta Pedale, and the Abbazia della Cervara, until reaching Gave, a trail junction marked by a small chapel. From here, you can descend to Paraggi or ascend to Crocetta.
Marked by the signpost
, the mule track climbs to the right, shaded by pine and oak forests, then continues through open countryside past houses, cultivated terraces, and small vineyards. You'll reach a rest area with benches, tables, and a drinking water tap at the Mulino di Gassetta, an eco-museum and refreshment point.
The mule track becomes a driveway, mainly used by locals, and soon joins the main Monte route at Olmi, connecting the Portofino Vetta-Portofino Mare itinerary.
Heading left towards Portofino, the path descends pleasantly through beautiful villas, manicured gardens, vegetable plots, and postcard-worthy landscapes.
At the junction with the path from San Fruttuoso, continue left to descend to Terruzzo, passing a small football field, and arrive at San Sebastiano, a cluster of houses with a charming little church.
The descent grows steeper but offers thrilling views: the Bay of Paraggi, Castello Brown, the "piazzetta" of Portofino, and the Church of San Giorgio.
The trail ends at the parish church of San Martino in the renowned village of Portofino.
After exploring Portofino, take the pedestrian path Portofino-Paraggi, a scenic walk above the road, surrounded by the park's greenery, reaching Paraggi in about 30 minutes.
After a short stretch on the main road towards Santa Margherita Ligure, continue with a steep stairway at the entrance to the Paraggi car park, next to the restaurant.
The climb, winding between high garden walls and terraces, is steep and challenging but leads back to the Cappelletta delle Gave in about 25 minutes, the spot encountered earlier.
To avoid retracing your steps, continue straight on the main path to the Nozarego church, then descend to Santa Margherita Ligure via the staircase you find after a few meters, reaching via della Madonnetta, a side street off the Santa Margherita Ligure promenade, in 15 minutes.
