This trail is short but challenging due to the initial ascent. Avoid it when the ground is wet, as the return can be slippery.
Start from Montepegli, a hamlet of Rapallo. From the motorway exit, follow signs to San Pietro di Novella. After passing the cemetery, take the right at the junction.
When you reach the first houses of the village, park along the road. Continue until you spot a handmade sign on the left, pointing to Rifugio Margherita. The trail marker is
. Begin on a concrete staircase and keep climbing. The path crosses a private road. Soon, you'll reach a fork: take the left for the shortest route, though both paths reconnect shortly.
Continue uphill through the woods for about 500 meters to reach a scenic area called Cian mazùn, featuring a stone cottage and a cableway.
Here, you'll find two signs: one higher up for Rifugio Margherita on Monte Pegge and one lower, to the left, leading to Manico del Lume. We choose the latter. The path starts wide and well-maintained, with remnants of old cottages, then climbs through the woods to a hill with large stones and hunter's hides.
Continue left to reach the summit of Manico del Lume. Enjoy views of Rapallo and Fontanabuona before heading back.
Take the narrow, level path towards Monte Pegge, following
. After about 500 meters, near a makeshift shelter, you'll find signs for Montepegli.
The trail descends through the woods, with some potentially slippery sections (avoid if too wet), leading back to Cian mazùn. From there, retrace your steps to the starting point.
