A pleasant hike between the Val Fontanabuona and the Trebbia Valley, following the same trail out and back.
The starting point is Barbagelata, a hamlet of Lorsica located at 1115 metres above sea level, reachable via the SP56 road climbing from the Passo della Scoglina, the mountain pass connecting the Val Fontanabuona and the Val d’Aveto.

After parking in the small area below the church or along the roadside, climb beside the old parish church — burned down by German troops in 1944 and replaced by the modern church built slightly higher up in 1972 — to reach the centre of the village.

Following the FIE trail markers Yellow circle and Two horizontal lines, take the road on the left passing between the houses and descending towards the provincial road, which is not actually reached because, a few metres before it, the trail climbing right begins.
(At the beginning of the provincial road there is a drinking water fountain.)

After the initial rather steep climb, the trail continues almost level through a beautiful beech forest, interrupted by occasional openings where the vegetation becomes thinner and pleasant views over the valley appear.

After around one kilometre of walking, the route reaches the Cappelletta di Costa Finale, a junction where the remains of an ancient chapel can still be seen.

Keep left to follow the trail marked with Two horizontal lines which, after a level stretch surrounded by heather plants that turn pink in spring and add a particularly scenic touch to the landscape, descends to the few houses of Costafinale, some of which still preserve their original appearance.

From the hamlet, descend to the road and follow it right for around 300 metres until reaching the locality of Cason da Basso (1065 m), where clearly visible signs indicate the trail once again running parallel to the road, offering views over the nearby hamlet before entering the forest.

After passing a table with benches, the route begins descending through the woods, crossing another beautiful beech forest before reaching, after a flatter section, Pian della Ca', a small rest area equipped with tables, benches and an old washhouse.

From here, in just a few minutes, the route crosses the tiny village, made up of a handful of rural houses (there is a drinking water tap), before reaching an asphalt road climbing towards the provincial road.

Follow the road to the right for a short distance before leaving it when a path appears on the right, moving away from the road and descending through the woods alongside a dry-stone wall before rejoining the provincial road lower down.

The trail marker painted on the guard rail directs hikers along the descending road until signs on the left lead once again onto the path heading towards the Cappelletta della Via Crucis, a small chapel surrounded by forest where tables and benches provide a pleasant resting spot.

The trail continues descending through the woods, crossing the carriage road several times along the Via Crucis, as shown by the small devotional shrines dotted along the route.

As the descent continues, glimpses of Montebruno gradually appear through the trees; the hike ends here at the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora di Montebruno.

The complex also houses the Museum of Rural Civilization.

After crossing the medieval bridge, the route enters the heart of this village in the Trebbia Valley, following narrow lanes winding between the houses until reaching the main street, where visitors will find essential services and several artisan shops selling the traditional local canestrelli biscuits.
