Starting point |
A short but rewarding itinerary on Monte di Portofino, suitable for everyone, with stops at numerous panoramic viewpoints.
The starting point is San Rocco di Camogli, accessible by private vehicles, by bus from Ruta, or on foot from Camogli.
Here you will find a bar, a bakery, a restaurant, and a drinking water tap.
From the churchyard, the trail continues overlooking the sea. After passing the staircase leading down to Punta Chiappa, you cross the hamlet Mortola, a small and very picturesque cluster of houses. Leaving the inhabited area, the path enters the woods and reaches the junction of Fornelli after about 20 minutes, where you continue straight ahead.
After a relatively flat section, the trail has some ups and downs on uneven stone steps that are easy to walk on. These lead out of the woods to a puddingstone cliff with commanding views over Punta Chiappa, Camogli, and the entire Golfo Paradiso.
In about 40 minutes from the start, you reach Batterie, a magnificent viewpoint over the gulf and a significant historical site with military structures from World War II, inviting you to linger a bit.
Here there is a drinking water tap too.
Ignoring the right turn leading down to Punta Chiappa, continue straight for a few meters, then ascend to the left at the no-entry sign, which currently blocks access toward San Fruttuoso di Camogli.
The trail, marked by FIE waypoints , climbs through arbustus trees, which bear colorful fruit in autumn, and tufts of smooth grass. In 20 minutes, it emerges beneath the lighthouse at Semaforo Nuovo, one of the most charming corners of the Portofino Park.
The area is equipped with wooden tables and benches, is ideal for a lunch break.
Proceed follow the trail ascending into the woods and then descending to Toca, a crossroads of several paths with another small shaded rest area.
The direction to follow is marked by , a route that proceeds flatly to Paradiso, where we recommend a short detour to the left to access the small panoramic terrace of Rocca del Falco.
Returning to the main trail, after passing the building that once served as a shelter, continue for a short flat section before starting the descent to Gaixella, on the Portofino Vetta - Portofino Mare route. Follow this path briefly to the left, then continue left again, following the trail marker .
In about 20 minutes, along a pleasant path through the woods, you reach a small votive shrine marking the beginning of the Via Crucis, as indicated by ceramic plaques marking the various stations.
The descent begins here, passing through a rural setting before arriving at the village Galletti, a cluster of colorful houses overlooking the sea. A final staircase leads down to the church square of San Rocco di Camogli, thus completing the scenic loop.
