An engaging loop itinerary through the hilly hamlets of Sori, touching the most panoramic peaks overlooking the Golfo Paradiso.
Due to the significant elevation gain, this route is recommended for experienced hikers.
The starting point is in Canepa, a small inland town reached by taking the narrow road uphill from Sori, for 3 km.
Near the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, there is parking car available.
The itinerary begins a few meters before the church with a path descending between houses
and, after a short distance, reaches a fork where there is a tap with drinking water. From here, continue left to reach the drivable road, Via Salita per Canepa.
Follow it to the right for about 150 meters until identifying, near a cluster of houses, a small pedestrian road that continues under the road. After passing the houses, it becomes a trail through the woods.
At a fork, take the right path that ascends through a chestnut forest. After about 1.5 km, with a final uphill stretch, you'll reache the first houses of the Levà hamlet. Passing thoriugh the small Ligurian village to reach the church small square, finding close here a tap with drinking water.
In the area, there is a bed and breakfast and a small business producing organic honey.
Continue now with the path to the left of the church, ascending towards Case Becco, passing by some houses before going between the terraces and reaching a fork. Continue left to reach the Castellà (or Castellaro) locality, a beautiful panoramic plateau where the remains of an ancient stone building are visible.
Here, following the path of the gas pipeline (Trail del Metanodotto), the steep ascent begins (just over 1 km) on rocky terrain (not recommended in descent and in wet conditions). This leads first to the top of Bric Preli (591 m) and then to Monte Possuolo (772 m).
For those who want to avoid the last, more challenging stretch just below the summit, about 600 meters from Bric Preli and 300 meters from Monte Possuolo, there is a path on the right that allows for a slightly easier ascent, extending the route slightly.
Arriving at the summit, take some time to catch your breath and contemplate the panoramic view that combines the beauty of the surrounding peaks with the splendor of the Gulf of Paradiso. The pleasant descent towards Bocchin de Possuolo and the provincial road of Monte Fasce now begins. Cross it to pick up the trail part of the Historical Colombian Itinerary
passing in front of the remains of the ancient Hospitale di San Giacomo, and, crossing a wetland, arrives near Case Becco, where it intersects with the trail to the left heading towards Colle del Bado, marked with a trail marker
.
This is a relatively easy trail that, after a slight uphill start, continues on flat terrain, encountering some small streams. At a well-marked fork with signs, continue straight to reach Colle del Bado, a crossroads of trails and an excellent place for a lunch break, thanks to the presence of small gazebos with wooden tables and benches.
Here, you often can spot wild horses.
Taking the direction towards Monte Bado (911 m) on the right, a short but steep ascent in the woods begins, guided by the trail marker
, which, in the final stretch, crosses a more open area with grassy terrain and ends at the summit of the mountain where a cross stands.
The effort is rewarded by the stunning view.
Continuing towards the sea on grassy terrain, follow the ridge before facing the last ascent of the route, allowing you to reach the summit of Monte Becco (894 m) directly in front.
Now begins the descent, on a rocky path, which in about 15 minutes brings you back to Casa Becco. Cross the asphalt road to continue straight, passing by the houses and the small chapel, following the FIE trail marker
to descend towards Canepa.
This is a wide, well-maintained path with remarkable panoramic views up to the Croce locality, a junction where you must continue straight, always following the same trail marker.
Now the path passes through an area where you can see some abandoned farmhouses and remains of dry stone walls, before crossing the woods and reaching Via Alpini d’Italia, the drivable road that descends to Levà.
Resuming the path straight ahead, passing under a hotel, and descending into a more rural environment characterized by olive trees, gradually approaching the first houses of Canepa.
With a cement staircase, you reach the main road and, turning left, you will soon reach the church, completing this loop trail.
