Short hike in the Portofino Park with no particular technical difficulties; only a short but steep descent on the return from Toca should be noted.
Portofino Vetta, reachable from Ruta di Camogli along Via Gaggino, is a convenient starting point for those arriving by car thanks to the nearby parking area; alternatively it can be reached on foot from Ruta.
There are two entrances to the trails: one directly opposite the parking area and the other at the end of the access road behind the hotel, currently closed.
Once inside the Park, continue along the main trail towards Pietre Strette until reaching Gaixella, a small resting area equipped with tables, benches and a drinking water fountain.
Ignoring the first junction on the right descending towards San Rocco, continue a few more metres before turning right onto an almost level path alternating shaded woodland sections with more panoramic stretches.
A short climb through the forest with stone steps leads to Paradiso, recognizable by a small building above the trail that once served as a mountain shelter.
A few steps down lead to the signs pointing right towards a panoramic viewpoint reachable in just a few minutes: the Rocca del Falco, a natural terrace overlooking Camogli and the entire Golfo Paradiso.
Returning to the main trail, in about 10 minutes you reach Toca, a small crossroads equipped with tables and benches.
Following the route marked with a
, in about 5 minutes you reach Semaforo Nuovo, a former naval signal station and lookout point during World War II. Today it is a popular scenic area thanks to its breathtaking views and the presence of picnic tables and benches.
From this panoramic position the view stretches from Capo Mele to the Island of Tino. It is also possible to observe the different types of vegetation found in the Park as well as a rich variety of birdlife. This is an ideal place to stop, admire the landscape and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
Continuing the hike, return to Toca, but instead of retracing the outward route, take the small path on the left descending steeply into the forest. Although the trail develops mostly through shaded valleys, there are several more open sections with beautiful views over Punta Chiappa and Camogli.
In the locality of Fornelli, the route joins the trail connecting Batterie and San Rocco di Camogli; the latter is the direction followed by this itinerary. Continue right along another wooded section before crossing typical Ligurian terraces supported by dry-stone walls, increasingly well maintained as the route approaches the inhabited areas.
After passing through the charming hamlets of La Mortola and Il Poggio, a scenic road section running parallel to the sea leads to the square in front of the Church of San Rocco di Camogli.
This small village offers a pleasant selection of shops, cafés and restaurants, making it a good place for a lunch break.
To return to Portofino Vetta, follow the trail starting beside the church and immediately crossing the houses of Galletti, before continuing through a more open section where hand-painted tiles depicting the Stations of the Cross can be seen on house façades and along the trail, up to a small altar hidden in the forest.
The trail then continues pleasantly through shaded woodland (this section can become particularly muddy after heavy rain) and after about 30 minutes reaches Gaixella, already passed on the outward route, from where it is sufficient to retrace the initial trail back to Portofino Vetta.
