This trail links Pieve Ligure and Sori, taking you through eight distinct churches, each with its own story. Start at San Michele Arcangelo in Piazza San Michele, Pieve Ligure Alta, a parish dating back to around 1000 AD, later enhanced over the centuries.
Begin your hike at Piazza San Michele, accessible by car (parking available behind the church), bus, or on foot from the station via the "creuze" paths, like Scalinata al Campetto.
Head left of the church up Via XI Febbraio, a staircase intersecting a road you should ignore. Continue to Via Michele Massone, a quiet road, for about 450 meters. Look for a sign on the right pointing to the Santa Croce trail, marked with
.
The trail starts with a gentle ascent, offering stunning views of the Gulf of Paradiso. Then tackle the steep "direttissima" to Santa Croce, where paths converge. Reach the second stop: the Church of Santa Croce atop its namesake mountain (518 m).
This church, likely from the 1200s, was a pilgrimage site and now attracts many hikers from Sori, Pieve Ligure, and Bogliasco.
From the churchyard, follow the FIE trail sign
left to Sella Cremeuxi. Here, leave the main path and head right towards Teriasca.
Follow the
markers briefly to a fork. Stay on the flat path. Though unmarked, it's easy to follow through once-cultivated land to the third stop: San Rocco di Teriasca.
This bright blue church, built in 1912 by Teriasca residents, stands in the trail with sea views, easily spotted from afar.
Continue past the church as the mule track gently descends to Teriasca, a village resembling a nativity scene, reached in about 15 minutes. At the first houses, turn left to explore the village and reach the parish square with a drinking water tap.
The fourth stop, San Lorenzo Church, was built between 1654 and 1657 and expanded in the late 1800s. Pass left of the church, following a pleasant path through the village and terraces, briefly intersecting a road to reach the fifth stop: the chapel of NS della Guardia Cortino.
This chapel in Cortino sits at a crossroads with a drinking water tap. Continue straight through the village, then descend towards Sori.
The trail ends at Case Rovere, a small cluster of houses. Cross to the Sori Stream, follow it to the junction, then left on Via Mazzini to reach Sori's lively seafront. A few meters left is the church of Santa Margherita Antiochia, the sixth stop.
Originally Romanesque from the 12th century, it was rebuilt in the 1700s in Baroque style, featuring one of Liguria's finest Baroque bell towers.
Return to Via Cavour, heading west to the final worship sites: the Sanctuary of NS delle Grazie, built in 1509 for the miraculous "La madonna du Pontin" painting, and the oratory of Sant'Erasmo, from the 1400s-1500s, now hosting religious and cultural events.
Ascend Via Sant'Erasmo through the village's heart, following FIE (Sori - Santa Croce - Monte Cordona) and Sentiero Liguria signs to Via Aurelia. Cross at the light, then left a few meters to new signs on the right.
This is Via Manin, a typical Ligurian "creuza" climbing among houses. After crossing a road, continue left on Via S. Gaetano, marked by a small votive shrine.
At the only potentially confusing junction, go straight on the wide brick staircase. Continue uphill to Via Chiossa, a flat road leading left to the Pieve cemetery parking and back to Piazza San Michele, completing the loop of the 8 churches.
