This trail is ideal for those seeking a gentle hike in nature without missing out on stunning views.
Start at Cavi Borgo, an old fishing village between Lavagna and Sestri Levante, easily accessible by train.
From the town center, head up Salita Sant’Anna where signs guide you to the Rocche di Sant’Anna via the Sentiero Liguria
.
A concrete staircase climbs through the houses to reach Via Antica Romana, a paved section that soon turns into a proper trail. This is one of the most spectacular sea-facing routes in the Riviera Ligure di Levante, leading to the ruins of the Church of Sant’Anna (about 20 minutes from the start). Benches here offer a chance to pause and enjoy the view over the bay of Sestri Levante.
After the Rocche, leave the path descending into Sestri and continue left towards Monte Capenardo.
The official trail marker should be
, but you'll mostly see
. This section is the only challenging part, with a steep, rocky ascent.
Watch out for fast-descending MTB riders.
At a fork (both paths meet higher up), take the right onto the "Mimose" path, which starts flat in the woods, then descends and climbs again to another fork.
Here, leave the main path to Monte Costello and La Selva and take the left track through a shaded forest, also used by horse riders.
The path ends on a dirt road. Follow it downhill for about 400 meters to find a right turn towards Sant’Eufemiano, reached in 10 minutes.
The church, from the 1200s and restored in the 1980s, is a small gem in the woods, with wooden tables and benches for a lunch or snack break, though they need some maintenance.
Retrace your steps back to Via Cerreto, following the trail marker
along the dirt road. Continue downhill to find a faint left track descending into the woods, emerging onto a paved road.
Here, it's unclear where the path resumes: take a few steps right, then descend left through countryside to reach the back of a house surrounded by vineyards.
Pass through the vineyards with sea views, reach a gate set to block wild boars, and continue on a path descending past houses in Cerreto. Reach a tunnel under the highway, then follow it for a few meters.
After a construction depot, the descent continues through scrub, with a final stretch that's a bit overgrown but soon ends on Via Lungo Torrente Barassi. Follow it left to return to Cavi Borgo town center.
